Christian Brechneff: A Week in Venice

January 18 – January 22

In a unique exhibition short on duration but long on color and content, Christian Brechneff: A Week in Venice features new work drawn and painted in situ during the past year. Capturing many versions of the same view, Brechneff shares his vision of the cityscape of Venice at different times of day and night and in various types of weather.

The result is dramatic, particularly when he works in delicate pastels but with bold execution. Offering the Venetian scenes as works on paper in several sizes, this show is an opportunity to take a visual trip to Venice without the cost of airfare.

Born in the former Belgian Congo in 1950, Brechneff was educated in Switzerland, England and the U.S. In 1975, he received his Master of Art Degree from the Royal College of Art in London. He has exhibited in Europe and the US and has won numerous awards including the Swiss Federal Government Scholarship.

Paintings and other works by Brechneff are represented in public and private collections worldwide. A dual citizen of Switzerland and the US, Brechneff divides his time between New York City, Hadlyme, Connecticut and the island of Sifnos in Greece.
